Dr. Greg McCarty
UNC Health Pardee's chief medical officer, Greg McCarty, has been appointed by Gov. Josh Stein to serve on the North Carolina Medical Board, the state agency responsible for licensing and regulating medical professionals.
As a member of the medical board, Dr. McCarty will help oversee the licensing and regulation of physicians, physician assistants, and other medical professionals across the state. He will also contribute to the development of policies that promote safe, effective and ethical medical practice. His three-year term on the board began on Nov. 1.
“I am honored to be appointed to the North Carolina Medical Board,” McCarty said in a news release. “It’s a privilege to represent the medical community of western North Carolina and help uphold the highest standards of care for our state. This appointment reflects not just my own commitment to quality and integrity in medicine, but also the dedication of the entire team at Pardee to ensuring every patient receives safe, compassionate, and personalized care.”
The North Carolina Medical Board plays a critical role in maintaining the public’s trust in the medical profession. The board is responsible for licensing, monitoring, disciplining and guiding physicians and advanced practice providers to ensure their fitness and competence to practice medicine. It is made up of 13 members, including physicians, APPs and non-clinician representatives of the public, reflecting a broad spectrum of perspectives on health care and professional accountability.
