FIRECRACKER HOT: Dangerous heat here for the holiday

Although a heat advisory stops short of the North Carolina mountains, the Fourth of July holiday will still be plenty hot.

The heat index is projected to reach 108 degrees in the Charlotte area today while it'll feel like the high 90s in the Hendersonville area. There is a slight risk of isolated strong to severe storms between 3 and 9 p.m. Dangerous heat is projected to persist through the weekend. Stay cool. Seek shade. Hydrate.
