USDA official tours housing sites, meets bear

EDNEYVILLE — USDA Rural Development Deputy Undersecretary Patrice Kunesh on Monday visited the homes of several families in the Hillcrest subdivision in Edneyville to help celebrate National Homeownership Month.


"USDA's partnered with the Housing Assistance Corporation, an affordable housing provider, and utilized the hard work of the families to make homeownership a reality for them," Kunesh said. "Owning a home is part of the American dream and often represents the largest single investment a person will make. These homes are proof that great things that can be accomplished by working together. I am very honored and proud to meet these families and help celebrate their success."
The Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC), founded in 1988, is the private non-profit organization that has provided housing services to more than 3,000 families in Western North Carolina. Services provided include emergency home repair, apartment rentals, owner-built housing, farm labor housing, rehabilitation, down payment assistance, home-ownership education and counseling.
Following her visit in Edneyville, Kunesh toured the Hendersonville downtown area with Noelle McKay, Executive Director of HAC, and saw the agency's Barefootin' Bear.
