I-26 in Polk to close for bridge work

COLUMBUS – N.C. Department of Transportation project work will require the closure of Interstate 26 West for two nights next week at mile marker 67 near Columbus in Polk County so crews can safely put a bridge girder in place over the highway.

The two-night closure begins at 8 p.m. on Monday, July 23. The interstate will reopen by 6 a.m. the next morning. The same closure time will be in place on Tuesday night, July 24, through the next morning.

Motorists will detour off I-26 West at exit 67 (U.S. 74 East/N.C. 108), travel through the roundabout and get right back on the interstate.

Drivers need to slow down approaching the closure and pay extra attention when on the short detour route.
