Shutdown over but Sandburg Home closed for storm cleanup

Rangers clear storm damage from the ice storm that occurred during the government shutdown.

FLAT ROCK — Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site remains closed while staff continue to remove trees and limbs that fell from winter storms during the shutdown.

The park will reopen when the parking lot and walkways to the house, barn, and other historic buildings are cleared, the National Park Service said. The trail system will remain closed while hazard tree and limb removal work continues. Please stay out of closed areas. Park managers are also monitoring a winter storm warning, which may impact park operations on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Visit www.nps.gov/carl or the park's Facebook page for updated information.
