Police seek shooter in drug incident on Grove Street

Hendersonville police detectives are seeking a 33-year-old man who they say shot a passenger during a drug transaction Tuesday night on Fourth Avenue East at North Grove Street.

 

Three individuals were engaging in drug-related activity in a vehicle at about 7:30 p.m. when the driver and rear passenger began shooting at an individual who was sitting in the front passenger seat. The victim got out of the vehicle and ran to the lobby of City Hall where he was given aid. The victim, who had been shot multiple times the torso, was transported to Mission Hospital where he was treated and released.

The investigation revealed the identity of one of the shooters as Kenny Lamar Smith Jr., who has been known to live in Asheville and Charlotte. Smith has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. The second suspect has not yet been identified and the whereabouts of both suspects are unknown at this time.
