Deputy Hawkins and Ranger assigned to Mountain Community School

Henderson County Sheriff Lowell Griffin and the Henderson County Sheriff's Office announced the two newest members of the School Resource Officer Division.

On Monday Deputy Ben Hawkins and his K-9, Ranger, were assigned to the Mountain Community School. Ranger has specialized training in narcotics detection as well as search and rescue.

Sheriff Griffin has long felt the need to have a K-9 team readily available and dedicated the school system and our school resource officers. He sees the addition of Ranger as another tool in the toolbox of being proactive to combat the drugs and vaping issues being seen even as early as middle school. Sheriff Griffin says “any time we can get drugs out of our schools and off our streets, our community and children are safer and healthier”. Deputy Hawkins and K-9 Ranger will be available to all schools in Henderson County.
