Service for former mayor Michalove is Sunday

A graveside funeral service for former mayor Don Michalove is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Oakdale Jewish Cemetery by Rabbi Rachael Jackson. A reception will follow at Agudas Israel Congregation.

Michalove died Dec. 15 at age 86 in San Antonio, Texas, where he and his wife had moved about six years ago. He had been battling cancer for about two years and had been in hospice care when he passed away. A city commissioner from 1977 to 1981, Michalove ran for mayor in 1981 on a platform of returning the city to a form of government under which the mayor and commissioners and not a city manager were responsible for the running the city. 

His wife, Eleanor Nanney “Ellie” Michalove, died in February 2015. He is survived by three daughters, Melissa Michalove Smith, Lori Hovis and Rachel Michalove, and five grandchildren.
