Maggie McCall, a senior at Mountain Gems Academy in Hendersonville and the daughter of Rex and Danielle Stepp McCall, signed a letter of intent last week with Montreat College to shoot on the Cavalier Sporting Clays Team.
Maggie, who learned to shoot with the Henderson County Young Naturalists 4H Club, has also been accepted into the Honors program at Montreat, where she plans to major in outdoor recreation studies with an environmental education concentration.
Led by Coach Hub Powell, Montreat’s clay target team finished fifth last month when more than 100 teams and 1,100 shooters competed in the ACUI/SCTP Collegiate Clay Target Championships in San Antonio, Texas. Events in the competition were skeet, doubles skeet, trap, doubles trap, sporting clays and super sporting.
