The Hendersonville Kiwanis Club last week honored eight students during its first Youth of the Year Service Leadership Awards ceremony since the onset of the coronavirus.

The Kiwanis family of service clubs includes K Kids in the elementary schools, Builders Clubs in middle schools and Key Clubs in high school. One member from each school-based club was nominated and recognized for exemplary leadership and volunteerism.

Service Leadership programs are designed to inspire young people to become engaged members of their community and to provide an opportunity to serve others while building leadership skills and connect with others. Each club has faculty advisers as well as Kiwanis members who volunteer their time in support of young people and their ideals. The program not only recognized and honored the students, but also the faculty advisers without whom there would be no opportunity for the clubs to exist.
