Pardee sports med adds two orthopedic surgeons

Orthopedic surgeons Corey Beals and J. Gregory Mawn have joined Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics.

UNC Health Pardee has expanded its orthopedic services by adding fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons Corey Beals and J. Gregory Mawn to Southeastern Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, a department of Pardee Hospital.

A U.S. Air Force veteran and board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Beals had the opportunity to care for all types of personnel in the military which gave him experience in dealing with a variety of athletic and chronic injuries. “I strive to listen to each patient and come up with a mutually agreed upon plan to best fit their life and expectations,” he said. “If surgery is needed, I ensure the optimal technique and rehab are implemented to get them back to doing what they love.”

Beals earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University and completed an internship and residency at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center. He pursued a fellowship in orthopedic sports and shoulder surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Beals has a special interest in shoulder replacement, rotator cuff repair, ACL tears, knee ligament injuries, cartilage restoration, meniscal tears, knee arthritis and orthopedic fractures. When he is not seeing patients he enjoys hiking, kayaking, playing sports, watching Ohio State football and spending time with his family.

Mawn earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He pursued a fellowship in adult reconstruction at Midwest Orthopedics at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Mawn has a special interest in accelerated recovery after total joint replacement, partial knee replacement, direct anterior hip replacement, peri-operative pain management and revision hip and knee replacement. When he is not treating patients, Mawn enjoys hiking with his dog, skiing, mountain biking, fly fishing and spending time with his family.
