Rotary Club collecting stuff for Rockin' Resale

The Hendersonville Rotary Club is seeking electronics, housewears, furniture, kitchen appliances, jewelry, musical instruments, office accessories and other donations for the Rotary Rockin' Resale.

The club is collecting the resalable items 9-11 a.m. Saturdays through April 20 at Eagle Self Storage at 2121 Spartanburg Highway. The Rotary Rockin' Resale is April 27 at the National Guard Armory.
The Rotary Club also will pick up items too large to transport. Call the Resale info line at 828-595-9299 and leave your contact information and the club will help make arrangement for pickup.
The club also said it would welcome participation by anyone willing to have a truck parked on their property or willing to donate space to store donations from employees at a workplace.
The Rotary Club is replacing its Bid for Kids fundraiser with "the old fashioned 'resale and auction' a big-fat-fun-time-larger-than-life-garage-sale."
"We hope that this is more in tune to the current economic situation and will be an easy way for people to help their community," Rotary president Maurean Adams said.
Chaired by Jason Wilde and Sheila Grapes, the committee also includes Rotarians Mike Kai, Chris Burns, Kathryn McConnell, Myra Grant, Mel Carlton, Susan Mangrum, Dale Bartlett, Larry Elliott, Ron Kauffman, Myra Watkins and others.
With the motto of Service Above Self, the Rotary Club focuses on education. Last year it donated more than $45,000 and touched the lives of 14,000 Henderson County children. The club receives applications from teachers to fund everything from school newspapers to worm farming to owl nesting and makes grants from $30 to $1,000.
"Up until now our fundraisers have been able to fund our service projects. But that has not been the case this year," Adams said. "The requests for help continue to increase. For example, this year we were not able to fund all of over 180 requests from teachers seeking grants through our Education Grants program."
The club has set a goal of $30,000 through the sale of the donated items and a live auction for the most valuable items donated. Prices will vary from high-end antique furniture to $5 or $10 or less for household items and tools. The club wants to collect 3,000 items to makes its goal.
