Kids back in school Wednesday for first time in 11 days

Henderson County public schools will open on a two-hour delay on Wednesday, the first day back in the classroom for students since Friday, Jan. 23, before the one-two punch of the big ice storm followed by 6-8 inches of snow.

The delayed start will allow the morning commute to take place in daylight, improving visibility for our buses and student drivers, schools Superintendent Mark Garrett said. No buses will travel on icy roads.

Here's Garrett's message:

"Please also be reminded that this delayed start means buses will arrive approximately two hours later than usual but altered bus routes could mean times may vary, as well.

"In your email and on the HCPS website, you will find a list of roads that buses will not be traveling on. Please note that the list does not include every single small, isolated secondary road that may also be impacted. If you live on a road that is still significantly impacted by snow and ice, count on it as being one that the bus will not travel tomorrow morning. In addition, if your student’s school has school-specific bus information to share like community stops, they will communicate those details later this evening.

"All morning programs, including child care services and breakfast, will also follow the two-hour delay schedule. Staff members who are unable to report at their regular time should communicate directly with their supervisor."
