Howard Gap segment closing for roadwork

The N.C. Department of Transportation will temporarily close Howard Gap Road from Clear Creek Road to Massey Road starting Monday for the widening project.

The road will close at 6 a.m. Monday and remain closed until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 26. Crews will close the same section again the following week, July 28-Aug. 2.

A signed detour route will follow Salisbury Road to Brookside Camp Road and back to Howard Gap Road.

The work is part of a $7.8 million project to replace two bridges and widen Howard Gap Road between U.S. 64 and Brookside Camp Road. Project contractor is NHM Constructors of Asheville.
