Funeral service announced for Detective Hendrix

A funeral service will be conducted Friday for Henderson County Sheriff's Detective Ryan Hendrix, who died in the line of duty last week.

Detective Hendrix will lie in state at Mud Creek Baptist Church, 403 Rutledge Drive, from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. followed by the funeral service at the church at 2 p.m. At the conclusion of the service, a funeral procession will transport Detective Hendrix to Forest Lawn cemetery, 538 Tracy Grove Road, for interment.

Live video feeds will be made available so that anyone unable to attend can view the service. More information will be forthcoming as details are confirmed.

State Sen. Chuck Edwards issued a statement passing along the sentiment of Hendrix's father, who told him he hoped his son's death would help end anti-law enforcement sentiment sweeping some cities.

"A hero has fallen," Edwards said. "My heart and prayers go out to the family of Deputy Ryan Hendrix of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Dept. The heinous act of the hardened criminal that shot him while in the line of duty again illustrates courage and leadership desperately needed from today’s elected officials.

"I stand to support those who willingly put their life on the line in defense of others. When I spoke with Deputy Hendrix’s father, through his grief, he expressed how he hopes that his son’s death will help end the anti-law enforcement sentiment we see rising in our country. We cannot forget the value of those in blue. They deserve our undying gratitude as we mourn this tragedy. Please pray for this hero’s family and all those who serve and protect."
