City's crime rate drops in 5 out of 6 categories

The crime rate dropped in Hendersonville in every category except larceny from 2012 to 2013, the Police Department said.

The annual Uniform Crime Report from the State Bureau of Investigation compared month to month crime figures for murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft.
The Police Department said the increase in larcenies was attributable to periodic rashes of car theft from cars that were left unlocked. The department reiterated its warning not to leave desirable devices such as cell phones, I-pads, and GPS systems inside the vehicle.
"Our ffficers are conscientious and care about their performance and the citizens of Hendersonville," Police Chief Herbert Blake said in a news release. "We want our community to feel safe and have confidence in their Police Officers. It is important to the Department to continue to protect and serve Hendersonville to the best of our ability. We appreciate the numerous times our citizens have contacted our department with information and concerns that led to fruitful police actions."
